JFS: About Us: History & Mission

Who We Help:

Children and Adolescents
At JFS we provide services to children through the Benet A. Rothstein Child Services Program. We treat children individually and as members of family systems. Our staff are experts in treating children struggling with depression, anxiety, anger issues, peer and family relationship issues, eating disorders, education issues, intellectual disability, Autism spectrum disorders, and pervasive developmental disabilities. Our clinical team provides education and evaluation services for parents and educators.

Our on staff Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Child Clinic Medical Director provides medication management as well as monitoring and consultation services for the family.

Individuals
Adults seek counseling and psychiatric services for a variety of reasons ranging from individuals experiencing a significant personal change, such as career challenges, marriage or divorce, or those with a specific concern such as depression, anxiety or living with chronic disability.

Our team of clinicians offer counseling and therapy related to challenges such as bereavement, attention deficit disorders, family issues, financial and job related issues, personal growth and adjustment, relationship issues, separation and divorce.

We offer opportunities for individuals to seek counseling, group therapy and medication prescription and management from our staff Psychiatrist and Medical Director.

Families
At JFS, family counseling is defined by the therapist and clients. Our therapists are experienced working with step families, parent/child relationships, family of origin and nuclear family issues. Opportunities for family counseling can be as diverse as families themselves.

  • Couples may seek marital counseling and later include children in the process on an as needed or regular basis.

  • Parents may participate in a child’s therapy and include other family members when appropriate.

  • Siblings of children with developmental disabilities may meet with other family members to learn how to cope with challenging family dynamics.

Couples
JFS clinicians offer pre-martial, marital issues and intermarriage counseling. Family support for post-adoption issues, communication differences, employment, extended family issues, illness or disability issues, and conflict resolution.

Seniors/Older Adults
JFS social workers provide services for older adults both in our office and through clinical home visits for those seniors who are unable to travel to the JFS office. We recognize that seniors have unique needs. Many seniors living alone or in assisted living and long term care facilities struggle with issues such as depression, transition and loss. Our comprehensive approach includes oversight by our adult psychiatrist and medication management and coordination.

Many of our clients are referred to us by family members, geriatricians, caregivers and residential staff. Our clinical staff provides assessments of cognitive and/or physical abilities.

JFS Care at Home: A program for older adults wishing to remain in their own home, apartment or assisted living facility, JFS offers JFS Care at Home, a comprehensive companion and homemaker service.
